This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Huedrop — Color Picker, Eyedropper & Palettes ("Huedrop", the "Extension", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with your use of the Extension. Huedrop is a local-first browser extension: it is designed to run entirely on your device and to keep whatever you create or save within your own browser. We do not operate servers that receive your content, and we do not collect, sell, rent, or share your personal information.

Please read this Policy carefully. By installing or using the Extension, you acknowledge that you have read and understood it. If you do not agree with this Policy, please do not install or use the Extension.

1. Introduction and Scope

This Policy applies solely to the Huedrop — Color Picker, Eyedropper & Palettes browser extension and the functionality provided within it. It does not apply to any third-party websites, browsers, platforms, or services that you may use alongside the Extension — including the Google Chrome Web Store and the web pages you visit — each of which is governed by its own terms and privacy policies.

This Policy describes our practices regarding "personal information" or "personal data" (information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with you). Because the Extension is local-first, the practical answer throughout this Policy is consistent: your information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.

2. Definitions

  • "Extension" means the Huedrop — Color Picker, Eyedropper & Palettes browser extension and all of its components.
  • "Device" means the computer or hardware on which you have installed your browser and the Extension.
  • "Local storage" means storage mechanisms provided by your browser that keep data on your Device, such as chrome.storage.local, chrome.storage.session, and (where applicable) IndexedDB.
  • "Personal information" or "personal data" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with an identified or identifiable natural person.
  • "Process" means any operation performed on data, including collection, storage, use, disclosure, or deletion.

3. Who We Are and How to Contact Us

The Extension is provided and maintained by its developer. For the purposes of applicable data-protection laws, any role we might otherwise have as a "controller" or "business" is limited in practice by the fact that the Extension processes data only locally on your Device and transmits none of it to us. You can reach us regarding this Policy at maroonark@gmail.com.

4. Plain-Language Summary

In short: Huedrop does not collect your data. It has no user accounts, performs no analytics, displays no advertising, and makes no network requests to us. Everything the Extension remembers is stored in your browser on your Device, under your control, and can be exported or deleted by you at any time. This summary is provided for convenience and does not replace the full Policy set out below.

5. Information We Collect

We collect no personal information. Huedrop does not require or offer registration, sign-in, or any account. We do not ask for your name, email address, telephone number, payment details, precise geolocation, or any similar identifier in order for the Extension to function.

The Extension does not transmit your browsing history, the content of the pages you visit, your keystrokes, or your usage of the Extension to us or to any third party. We maintain no server-side logs of your activity because the Extension does not communicate with our servers.

6. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

To provide its features, the Extension stores certain information in your browser's local storage on your Device. This information remains on your Device, is not accessible to us, and is not sent anywhere. Depending on the features you use, it may include:

  • your saved palettes and recently picked colours
  • your preferences, such as default copy format and casing

You remain in control of this information. You can typically view, export, or delete it from within the Extension's options or settings, and removing the Extension from your browser will remove its locally stored data in accordance with your browser's behavior.

7. How the Extension Uses Browser Permissions

Modern browsers require extensions to declare the permissions they use. Huedrop is designed to request the minimum permissions necessary for its features. Each permission and its purpose is described below:

  • activeTab: Used only when you click “Grab page colors”. It grants temporary access to the tab you are viewing so Huedrop can read the colours used on that one page. It does not run in the background and never touches other tabs.
  • scripting: Injects a single bundled function into the current tab (only when you click “Grab page colors”) that reads computed colours and returns them. No remote code is loaded; the script reads styles and changes nothing on the page.
  • storage: Saves your palettes, recent colours and preferences locally via chrome.storage.local. Nothing is ever sent off your device.

The Extension does not request broad host access such as "read and change all your data on all websites" except as strictly necessary and described above, and it contains no remote code — all code is bundled in the Extension package and distributed through the Chrome Web Store.

8. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The Extension itself does not set cookies and does not use web beacons, tracking pixels, or similar cross-site technologies. The local storage mechanisms described above are used solely to remember your settings and content on your Device and are not used to track you across websites or services.

9. No Tracking, Analytics, or Advertising

We do not use any third-party analytics, telemetry, crash-reporting, attribution, or advertising services within the Extension. We do not build profiles about you, and we do not engage in behavioral or targeted advertising. The Extension does not "phone home."

10. Disclosure, Sale, and Sharing of Personal Information

We do not disclose, rent, sell, or share your personal information, because we do not collect it. For the purposes of the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act ("CCPA/CPRA"), we do not "sell" and do not "share" personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve (12) months. We do not collect or process "sensitive personal information" in a manner that would give rise to a right to limit its use.

Because no personal information is collected or transmitted, there is no category of personal information that we collect, sell, or share, and there are no third parties to whom such information is disclosed for a business or commercial purpose.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation ("GDPR"), the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA, and other applicable privacy laws. These may include the rights to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to certain processing, and not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights.

Because the Extension stores data only on your Device and we hold no personal data about you, you can exercise the substance of these rights directly and immediately: you may access and export your data from within the Extension, correct it by editing it, and erase it by deleting it within the Extension or by uninstalling the Extension. If you nonetheless wish to make a request or have questions about your rights, contact us at maroonark@gmail.com and we will respond consistent with applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection or supervisory authority.

12. International Users and Data Transfers

The Extension processes data locally on your Device wherever you are located and does not transfer your personal data internationally, because it does not transmit your data to us at all. Any data you choose to export from the Extension is thereafter handled by you and is subject to the services or storage locations you select.

13. Children's Privacy

The Extension is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the Extension collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, although in the ordinary course there is no such information for us to hold.

14. Data Security

Because your data remains on your Device, its security depends primarily on the security of your Device, your browser, and your operating system. We design the Extension to minimize data exposure by avoiding network transmission and remote code. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Device, including using up-to-date software and appropriate access controls. No method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of locally stored data.

15. Third-Party Services

You obtain the Extension through the Google Chrome Web Store and use it within a web browser. Your use of the browser and the Chrome Web Store is governed by the respective terms and privacy policies of those providers, which are independent of us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites that you visit or services that you connect to using your browser.

16. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the Extension, legal requirements, or our practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this Policy and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Extension after an updated Policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes.

17. Governing Law

This Policy and any dispute arising out of or relating to it are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles, except to the extent that mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection laws of your place of residence apply.

18. How to Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Policy or your privacy, please contact us by email at maroonark@gmail.com. We will make reasonable efforts to respond within a timeframe consistent with applicable law.
